This rose has grown in our garden for many years but it is the first time we have had successful propagation. We took cuttings late in the fall and perhaps that is the secret to successful propagation with this rose.Â
It is a very dark, velvety, red wine color, almost black at some times of the season. Nicely ruffled blooms are strongly fragrant. This famous Hybrid Perpetual can be grown as a large shrub or climber, it repeats throughout the season after a substantial amount of bloom in the spring. Our hot dry summers lend to a healthy rose although you might see some powdery mildew in the late autumn. A bit of shade in the hot summer afternoons is appreciated.Â
