For over 20 years we have carried everything to make your home and garden look its best. Our friendly and knowledgeable staff will help you find the supplies perfect for any project. Owners of the Rosarium Garden Center
Carol became a Master Gardener in Bonner County and completed her horticulture degree in Spokane. Terry is a chief financial officer in the timber industry. Carol and Terry purchased the Rosarium in 2005 and transformed it into a full service garden center. They created the Display Garden which now has over 2,000 roses and unique features. Growing plants has been a lifelong love for the Newcombs and continues to this day.
Among her many favorites, Carol recommends the hardy Canadian Roses such as Emily Carr, John Davis, and William Baffin. Carol's tip for growing roses is starting with a healthy environment using organics. During her many years of gardening, she has seen the greatest return in using organics, especially the Rosarium organic custom fertilizer.
Garden Center Team Manager
Kathy acknowledges her love of gardening took hold during her
primary school years as she picked vegetables for meals and cut roses for
bouquets in her grandma's picket-fenced garden. As a hairdresser and then a
grocery store owner for 34 years Kathy sincerely loves to provide
individualized customer service. Kathy has the horticulture certificate from Master Gardeners and is beginning her tenth year in fulfilling her lifelong dream of working in a specialized garden center.
Kathy's favorites include Grandma's Blessing (rose), Garden Phlox (perennial), Calycanthus Aphrodite (shrub), and the Hula Hoe (to grub out those pesky weeds!)
Kath has been gardening since she was 6 years old when gardening meant weeding dandelions for a penny in her parent's yard. By profession Kath is a Landscape Architect, licensed in Washington and Idaho, with a degree in Landscape Architecture from WSU and over 38 years of landscape architectural design and project management experience in the Spokane area. As an avid gardener Kath is delighted to be a part of the Rosarium Team giving her the chance to be immersed in the plant nursery trade and help fellow gardeners (and weeders).
Kath’s current favorites include Grandma’s Blessing (rose), Helianthemum (perennial), Lil’ Miss Sunshine Caryopteris (shrub) and a big rubber tub with handles (for collecting many weeds).
Sarah developed a love of gardening when growing up on a farm in Ontario, Canada. After moving to North Carolina and pursuing a career in nursing for 30 years, she retired to Spokane to be closer to family. She is now following her childhood dream of working in the horticulture. Sarah is completing the Master Gardener Program and has a keen interest in waterwise garden design.
Sarah loves David Austin roses for their exquisite blooms and fragrance. In particular, Crown Princess Margareta for its bountiful apricot-orange blooms and vigorous climbing habit. Her favorite perennials are hellebores as the first harbingers of spring with long lasting blooms. One of her favorite things to do is to explore the Rosarium Display Garden for unique and hardy plants that thrive in the Spokane area!
Jordyn didn’t find her love of gardening until after high school when she spent a whole summer watching The Secret Garden on repeat. She then decided gardening would be her life and went to Washington State University where she got a degree in Landscape, Nursery and Greenhouse Management and a certificate in Organic Gardening. Upon completion she then started her own floral design business creating natural arrangements for brides all over the state. Now she spends her time tending to her own garden and passing on her love of flowers and the outdoors to her 2 children.
Her favorite roses are English and old varieties, especially the ramblers that take over entire arbors. You'll always find her with a pair of clippers to cut a bundle of flowers to bring inside.
Ben is a life-long local of Spokane and lives down the street from the Rosarium. Graduating from Cheney High School, Ben will be attending Washington State University to study Law. Ever since he can remember, Ben and his father would grow tomatoes and basil in their garden. Ben is an all-around handyman and gardener at the Rosarium. His hard work shows in the beauty of our Display Garden. And Ben will help you load your car with metalwork and plants!
Ben's favorite rose is Easy Spirit and he always carries his trusty felco pruners.
Tezra grew up in Grant County and moved to Spokane in 2019. She has always had a deep love for the outdoors, and during COVID she discovered her passion for plants and gardening. Spending time propagating and tending to her house plants was meditative for the soul and she discovered that horticulture was the career she wanted to pursue. Tezra is nearly finished with the Greenhouse & Nursery Management program at Spokane Community College.Â
Tezra's favorite roses are Sweet Mademoiselle and Crazy Love, and she loves perennial lavender. Her favorite tools are hand pruners and a good pair of leather gloves!
Michael has lived his whole life in the Spokane-Cheney area. He studies civil engineering at Washington State University. Michael's has the best memories of growing fruits and veggies in his mom's garden every summer.
Michael's favorite plant is the Tiger Lily and he takes his pruners everywhere in the garden.
