David Austin considers this rose to be among his most fragrant variety. It has a distinctive myrrh scent found in some of his early roses "Constance Spry" and "Scepter'd Isle". The plump yellow buds have flashes of red and when the blooms open, they are rich buttery yellow and pale to a soft creamy ivory. Even fully open the blooms retain a nice cupped shape. This rose is particularly healthy and bushy and has few thorns. It has an upright form. Plant where the strong fragrance can be appreciated. It can be grown as a 5-foot shrub or trained up as an 8-foot climber.
Wollerton Old Hall in Shropshire has one of the most beautiful private gardens in England, not far from the David Austin nursery. The gardens are set around a 16th Century Hall and feature roses in creative plantings. One of my personal favorite garden in England.
