A species rose brought west by the settlers, you will often see it around old homesteads and growing on the prairie. We have one near our nursery here on the high prairie that I don't think ever gets any water or care and has created a huge shrub, probably 8 X 10. Be sure to give this rose plenty of room and it is quite thorny.
